Eligibility Criteria for Level -1 Black Belt Course :
a)   Application requirements
  • Should attend the 15-day SSQI Black Belt training workshop which is spread over a period of 6 months and actively participate during the training sessions.
  • Should complete "Two Six Sigma Projects" during the 6 months of the training workshop and show tangible savings as an outcome of the project.
  • One Six Sigma Project should be completed as an Organizational level project - All the four phases of the DMAIC should be completed for the project.
  • One six sigma project should be completed individually - All the four phases of the DMAIC should be completed for the project.
  • Both the projects should be presented in the class and will be evaluated for the following criteria :

  •     a)   Nature of the Project undertaken.
        b)   Application of the DOE tools.
        c)   Conclusions made using the Tools.
        d)   Type of Process improvement actions implemented.
        e)   Amount of benefits and savings realized.
b)   Academic requirements
  • There will be continuous assessment tests that will be conducted for every module. 30% of the marks will be taken for the final evaluation from these tests. There will be four continuous assessment tests.
  • There will be a final exam held in the last module. 70% of the marks will be taken for the final evaluation for this exam.
  • Both these put together, each participant should get a minimum of 70% to clear the exam.
Each participant who has successfully met the criteria for both the academic and the application requirements will be certified as "Black Belt".

c)   Key Organizational requirements for successful Six Sigma Implementation
  • Top Management commitment and involvement is very key for the successful completion of all the Six Sigma projects.
  • Top Management should conduct reviews on the progress of the project with the Black Belt (person who is attending the training modules) every week
  • The Black Belt should select his team based on the process knowledge domain required and should conduct review with his team every 3-4 days.
  • The selected participants should be released from their "daily work routine" during the six month period for the successful implementation of the methodology.
